Ruth E. Lyons and Carl Giffney (The Good Hatchery)
June 4 – 26 2010
SOMA Contemporary presents “Glasimile” highlighting the work of artists Ruth Lyons and Carl Giffney, collectively working under the moniker “The Good Hatchery”.
The Good Hatchery is an experimental art studio based in the remote bog lands of Co. Offaly and a moniker under which the two artists occasionally conduct a collaborative practice. This new work brings together diverse elements of the pair’s individual practices and amalgamates some of their recent areas of investigation. In an installation of dynamic proportions, they return to construction to investigate pertinent issues of the place of faith, the changing role of local industry and their connection to the seahorse as an iconic image. Ruth E Lyons graduated from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, in 2007 with a BA in Fine Art Sculpture. Since graduation she has exhibited broadly and been involved in numerous residency programmes and contextual projects throughout the country. Carl Giffney also graduated from the sculpture department of the National College of Art and Design, in 2007 and is currently completing a MA in visual arts practice in the Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Ireland. He has been involved in many diverse projects both on a national and international level.
Between exhibiting and traveling both hold studios at The Good Hatchery. “Glasimile” is the fourth collaboration by Carl Giffney and Ruth Lyons, following shows at Monster Truck Gallery in Dublin, Place in Gorey, and the Irish Museum of Contemporary Art, Dublin.
