Robbie O’Halloran

SOMA Contemporary announces an exhibition of new work of Robbie O’Halloran

Thursday December 9th – 18th, 2010.

An exhibition of new work by Robbie O’Halloran opens in SOMA on Thursday December 9th. Reception will be held at 7:00pm with music by Percolator.

Robbie O Halloran’s work explores notions of abstraction as it intersects with various disciplines from philosophy and politics to architecture and even theories of the spiritual in art. It employs relatively simple visual devices and filters them through a rigorous series of practical decisions involving colour, scale, surface and composition. These devices are developed from many sources ranging from the highly personal, to the found object, or a lost moment recorded on a scrap of paper.

Robbie O’Halloran was born in Waterford City, Ireland in 1975. He studied art first at Waterford Regional Technical College between 1993 and 1996. In 1998 he graduated from the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, with a Batchelor’s Degree in Fine Art. He completed his Master’s degree in painting at the same college in 2001. Robbie has also written about contemporary art as a contributor to Circa magazine and as a contributing writer for the Gandon Editions monograph on the artist Paul Doran. His work is held in several important private and public collections including Government Buildings Dublin, Wesley College Dublin, AXA, Microsoft Dublin and Ernst & Young headquarters in London. He is currently based in London. For more information on his practice, visit www.robbieohalloran.com
